Le Haut Verdon et le lac d'Allos

Marmottes in the National Park of Mercantour

All day (departure 7.00 am)

Welcome to the Haut Verdon and the Allos Lake.

This is a unique opportunity to see the highest natural mountain lake in Europe. At 2228 mts, Lac d'Allos is spectacular, surrounded by amazing mountain peaks. So put on your trainers  and don't forget your sunhat and a bottle of water.

After a 45 min walk, you will be taken aback by the sheer vastness and beauty of this exceptional site. Nothing will prepare you for this unique experience, where you are immersed in this wild, natural paradise.

In the spring and summertime, mountain flowers appear everywhere, adding colour and contrast, making it even more magical.

Marmottes play openly and occasionally if you are early enough, you might see a chamois. After lunch we will visit Colmars les Alpes.

Colmar les Alpes is a small impressive fortified medieval village, built on the riverside of the Verdon. It is situated in a picturesque setting, at the foot of the  mountains .

Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, a famous french military engenieer, fortified the city to protect it from invaders coming from the Alpes. The two main entrances, the Porte de Savoie and the Porte de France, lead you to narrow streets little squares and lovely fountains.

Much of the village as you see it today, is as it was then. Stroll through this lovely village at your leisure and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
